SEX BOX may be a startling title to a show, but WE tv decided to keep it simple. The much anticipated premiere is scheduled for this Friday, February 27.
The box, subject of the photo posted above, tantalizes as it sits on the stage during the latest TV reality show about couples, marriage counseling and sex.
Is the uproar just about the fact that a big box, bathed in blue light is the site of sexual activity in front of a live studio audience that knows people are getting it on inside?
Not according to the Parents’ Television Council that calls it a “live sex show”. The PTC is circulating a petition to remove WE tv from basic cable/satellite channel packages because of SEX BOX.
WE tv counters by describing it as the “The most extreme couples therapy ever.” The network decided to challenge the public to watch it before it judges the show as a foul waste of time, and promises to put a link on its website to the PTC petition if someone wants to join the fight.
Meanwhile, the premiere looms and what we can tell you is that couples will sit down with counselors, for a preliminary chat that identifies their issues. They can choose to walk away or make their way to the box, have relations and rejoin the counselors for therapy.
What transpires is a frank and detailed exchange about what occurred in the box, with the counselors making attempts to bridge the gap that has threatened their marriage.
The network’s press release introduced the therapists:
“Experts include: Dr. Fran Walfish, a leading Beverly Hills psychotherapist, Dr. Chris Donaghue, a licensed clinical nationally certified sex therapist (one of only 600 in the world) and Dr. Yvonne Capehart, pastor and couples’ counselor, and Danielle Stewart, who provides commentary and on-the-street interviews.”
That’s it. There are no audible sounds from or sneak peeks inside the box. It is however, a show during which sexual acts will be discussed and opinions shared by therapists and a pastor.
Do we dare to suggest that you get these topics thoroughly covered and in detail on daytime talk shows that air much earlier than the 10 p.m. start time for SEX BOX. Yes, we do.
