ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER: Will We Be Seeing Less of Jane from the New Kilcher Homestead?

Update: Atz Kilcher announced a memoir. Details!

Last week, on the Season Premiere of Discovery Channel’s hit series ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER, we saw Atz Lee and Jane move their residence out away from the center of the Kilcher clan, to start a new homesteading project at the family’s hunting cabin. Being so far away–and so alone–did not seem to be Jane’s cup of tea, but she is always a good sport, and willing to give it a good try; establishing a new homestead for the good of the Kilcher family was no different.

But, it is definitely going to be a challenge for Jane’s people-loving spirit. We also have to wonder: How will the new homestead project affect Atz Lee and Jane’s time on camera this season? Jane called a “hot chick” by Atz Lee, sweet talking her for helping out with the cabin.

One of our favorite parts of the show is watching Jane as she tries to master many of the tasks required for living remotely off the land. Sometimes she succeeds, sometimes she fails, but she always tries–and keeps trying. We like Jane; we hope living so far away–and the addition of Shane and his wife to the cast (who we welcome, by the way)–does not mean less of Jane and Atz Lee.

Time will tell.

Fans of Alaska reality TV have no doubt noticed a trend: Complaints about exceptionally warm temperatures in Alaska. It seems to affect everything about life in Alaska, from travel to hunting to trapping. But, like other Alaskans we have seen, the Kilchers are doing their best to swing at this curveball Mother Nature has thrown their way and knock it out of the park. Tonight, according to Discovery Channel, on episode “Blood, Sweat & Beers”:

After a winter of record-setting warm temperatures, the Kilchers team up to tame the land. Otto & Eivin tackle turning raw wilderness into a source of food for generations to come. Atz Sr. battles the elements & a menace at the head of the bay.

ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER is produced for Discovery Channel by Discovery Studios. Executive Producers are Daniel Soiseth, Christopher Meindl and Mitchell Tanen, Co-Executive Producer is Vince Ueber. For Discovery Channel, Executive Producer is John Slaughter and Producer is Sara Van Acker.

Stay tuned–and read a recap of last week’s Season Premiere right here on TVRuckus!

ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER airs on Discovery Channel on Sunday nights at 9/8c.

    • I agree. I realize they’ve chosen a lifstyle ad all are crazy busy, but Shane”a needs for providing his wife with a home should have had all hands on deck. As for the farm equipment & other machinery you can easily tell it”s absolute crap – just like you find on our farm. Net worth naysayers? Couple million isn’t that much – especially in Alaska where everything is crazy overpriced.
Kudos to Jane & autz choosing to keep the kids low profile!

As for Jane being a lightweight – that woman fishes to put protein in the freezer while get husband can be an acknowledged slacker. Hang in there gal & fight the good fight…

    • I Agree 100%!! HELP SHANE GET HIS FIRST HOME BUILT (his wife is sick).
Seems selfish that Atz Lee needs to build a second home when his brother doesn’t have 1!!

  1. Jane is attempting anything to get paid to be on the show. Her lack of homestead skills only shows how little she’s been doing for all these years. Now she has this sudden interest to do real survival stuff with hubby? All this inclusion of her daffy “I’m- new- to- this” behavior is annoying and my least favorite.

    • Facts are useful when one seeks to be the judge of others. Just FYI: Jane’s net worth is just over 2 million dollars. Jane is a musician who sings plays piano, keyboards and is a songwriter. Jane plays in the Yellow Cabin Band. Jane is also a member of The Mechanical Orchestra as a composer and on Keyboards. Jane has previously played works by Rachmanioff. Jane learned how to play the piano from Mary Epperson. Jane went to college at the University of Texas in Austin. She worked as a registered nurse in Remote villages in Alaska. She was a commercial fisherman for 11 years. Also an avid skier, she has been skiing since she was 5. Jane has two children with Atz Jr., Piper and Etienne. They are not on TV because they choose not to expose them to that type of publicity. She was 12 and Atz was 11 years old when they met.
It seems she has been a very busy wife and mother.

    • I agree. Jane is my least favorite also. She needs to go live in the lower 48 and spend her time bitching there instead of on TV

  2. I, too, have been wondering why Shane and his seriously ill wife get precious little family help in building their cabin. It seems like the family helps everyone except Shane.

  3. she drives me nuts with her yelling, and the way she holds a rifle, also shooting a hand gun,she knows it going to make noise, but she still screams, catching fish scream, scream, let her go to the wilderness and try to live out there, atz is very patient man

    • When Jewel quits singing and returns to the Homestead then you can bitch about her not being a 6’2″ 200 pound tough Alaskan. Otto and Antz are getting a little long in the tooth so they are prepping for their kids to have it easy. Eivens wife is so soft she needs to toughen up. Otto’s 2nd wife is a dingbat so she must have been a warm night for him, as his first wife tried to live like that several years. They are all wealthy so don’t look at their dumps for homes. Otto is an inventor, his brother can sing and fathered Jewel the international star, so they are ok. It is all a script anyway just like all reality shows are.

  4. As a past farm boy, I enjoy watching a rural family and their adventures. I hope that you city people realize that normal rural life is not as exciting as that portrayed on “Alaska….” most of you guys don’t realize that the Kilchers are tied into “City?” life for Homer, Alaska. If anything; the “Show” got the Kilchers busy providing indoor toilet facilities (Otto) and running water (Eivin). I also noticed the improvements for Otto’s house (new roof-heating etc.) Noted that the Kilchers were not “Subsistence Living” people. The family is not “Broke.” The main thing that I enjoy about the Show is the effort that Otto is making to FINALLY finish his home, and the life experiences of Eivin and Eve. Unlike his cousin Atz Lee, Eivin is not hiding his family from us. Jane is mostly portrayed as a bystander. Glad that August is finally making a more regular showing. I think that Atz Lee’s injuries are going to affect his future participation. Overall, I enjoy the Show. Just hope that the Producers don’t “Fudge it Up.”

    • I’ve never seen any episode or anyone associated with the show saying or even insinuating that they were “broke”. I think all the heavy equipment alone says otherwise, wouldn’t you say? Their living a “subsistence lifestyle” of growing, raising, making and battering for the bulk of their needs is living that lifestyle. That does not exclude the necessity to sometimes actually buy things that cannot be self provided or bartered for. It also doesn’t exclude interacting with those that live in a city. All subsistence living still requires some actual cash exchanges, if for nothing else to pay land taxes and receive medical, dental or vision care. Atz Jr is not “hiding his family”, he and Jane have clearly communicated that they no longer have their children on the show to protect their privacy because of those aggressively seeking them out and because of all the nasty, insulting, judgmental comments made by those in the public. Both of which can be damaging to their children. Eiven’s son is still a baby and cannot understand what is said by the public or read the troll like comments on the Internet.

    • Hey Lee, these people are not living the rural lifestyle.. they drive their new cars to town everyday, about 10 miles.. they eat at McDonalds, they shop for everything they need at Safeway and they are making loads of $$ off of people like you and their misguided (by Discovery) amazement with false advertising.

  5. The reason for not raising pigs, is PROBABLY, because they are already stretched to thin as it is. They all have something they do to help the entire family out. And now that even has a couple cows. He is involved in b the cattle now. But I love how this family is involved in each others lives. And about the family not helping SHANE., I think that he is to proud to ask for it or EXCEPT it. Now that ATZ LEE, is out for the count. He is going to need alot of help now. I’ve got a feeling that he will end up staying right there for at least another 5 years, befor he goes to the hunters cabin. These people are the LAST OF THE GREAT PEOPLE OF AMERICA . Great hard workers. They help who ever asks for it. They show a great amount of LOVE TOWARD one another .

  6. Subsistence living and then we see bull dozers old new, cranes, small and large backhoes, all kinds of equipment some new, some older, large and small, a huge flat bottom boat to haul herds, equipment, ect. Then Eve goes to the hospital to have her baby. I was surprised by that, babies are born on a farm all the time. If ob/midwife says go ahead no forseeable problems why go to hosp. I had mine by midwife in a city of 77,000. Its getting hatder to see all of them “Subsistence” living not so much anymore. Their dad started that way sure. But their life needs this kind of heavy equipment, now, that crane that tipped helping Shane costs around 100 thousand and up. No wonder they need to open their lives to television, you couldn’t fix the turn in the road with shovels in one day. Im thankful I get to see a part of how they live. It is the last frontier. But truthfully it’s not true subsistence living.

    • Otto collects junk, lots of it and lets it rot..These folks are only living 10 miles from town, making lots of money by pretending to be rustic. Jane and Atz are building a new house on Kilcher Rd, they do Not live off of Kilcher Rd. Most of this show is simply false and people are somehow entertained by being lied to?

  7. How did the earthquake affect the kilchers? I’ve heard anything from a 6.5 to a 7.1 and still don’t know how far away the center was. Saw some pretty scary footage on the mews from a hardware store. Wasn’t pretty!!!

  8. HELLO AND THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAVE A COMMENT,
    I TOTALLY LOVE THIS SHOW.
I WATCH EVERY CHANCE I GET EVEN RERUNS, I RECORD THEM SO I CAN WATCH THEM WHEN THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO WATCH.
I AM TOTALLY IN AWE OF THEIR LIVES ON THE HOMESTEAD,SERIOUSLY YOU LEARN SOMETHING DIFFERENT . THEY ARE LIVE SAVAGE ,AND I SAY THAT WITH LOVE.
THEY ARE NO HOLDS BARRED. WE GROW UP WITH DIFFERENT CONCEPTIONS ON WHAT HOMESTEAD LIVING IS LIKE, AND I MEAN EVERYWHERE SOME PLACES ARE HARDER THAN OTHERS BUT THAT WAY OF LIFE IS IMPRESSIVE! I MEAN LOOK HOW THE WORLD IS TO DAY AND ALL ITS PROGRESS?
AND THEY CHOSE TO CONTINUE TO DO THING THEMSELVES, PROPS TO THEM, HATS OFF TO THEM, THUMBS UP TO THEM.
PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE SOME NEGATIVE COMMENTS BECAUSE ITS THAT FREEDOM OF SPEECH THING? REALLY?AND THE FACT THAT THEY DO HAVE SOME UP TO DATE THINGS GOING ON LIKE WATER HEATERS GENERATORS,SOLAR PANELS ETC ETC , IS PROGRESS ! HELLO! ITS CALLED PROGRESS. AND EVEN THOUGH IT A SHOW ON HOMESTEADING, HOW ARROGANT ARE WE OR YOU TO THINK THAT MODERN DAY APPLIANCES ARE NOT ALLOWED?? LOOK HOW OFTEN THEY COME OUT WITH THE LATEST CELL PHONE,OR APPLIANCE WE ALL DO BACK FLIPS AND OR HECK OF OVERTIME JUST AFFORD THEM????? SO YEAH I WOULD SIT AND WONDER WHY THEY DO NOT USE CELL PHONES WHEN THEY ARE AT THE HEAD OF THE BAY, OR WALKIE TALKIES AND OR JUST SOME KIND OF COMMUNICATION? LIFE IS TO ADVANCED TO NOT ADVANCE EVEN JUST A LITTLE ,AND STILL BE ORIGNAL… SOME PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE A CUE.. LOVE THE SHOW HOPE THE HAVE A 6TH SEASON, AND TO THAT COMMENT ABOUT SPARROW BEING A DUMB NAME,REALLY ARE YOU GROWN UP?? DONT BE A HATER

    • Cynthia, go visit them and you will see that it is mainly false advertising… These are not backwoods folk, these are people making a bunch of money by making people like you think they’ve got it rough.. they do not have it rough, at all. They drive new cars, they go to town every day and on and on. Go visit them and check it out for yourself..

      • have you visited them yourself? These people work a lot harder than most people in the U.S. If you take away any local stores, shops, cars, etc these people would be able to survive without any of it. That’s more than I can say for 99% of the people in the United States.

  9. My husband an I have watched every season. We love it . It’s a great show , everyone should watch this type of show. Family’s need this type of real living. We watch all the reruns. We drove from Alabama this summer to Alaska an plan to go back this next year. Thank you Discovery Channel.

  10. Love this show have watched from the beginning can’t understand the negative comments probably just jealous ? What a wonderful way to live your life and bring up your children they surely are blessed I hope to see many more seasons ottoman is my favourite he is just so funny love be to you all.

  11. I admire each and every one of you. You ARE what the world needs more of today. Love for one another. I hope your Show never ever gets cancelled. You ALL are an inspiration to us (from the lower 48) who can only imagine what the “good life” is all about. Thanks for sharing. You’re always welcome in my home.

  12. Love the show. My son, daughter-in-law and four granddaughters live in Alaska. People need to realize that Alaska is not much different than any other state. The is normal life, shopping, hospitals and entertainment in Alaska.
The Kilcher live right outside of Homer which is a normal city like we are all use to it is just surrounded by beautiful scenery. But if they need meat or food, medical or supplies they can actually drive into Homer like everyone else and get what they need.
Otto runs a heavy equipment business in Homer and the family also owns a lodge on the homestead. It is a great show and fun to watch but they are just normal people who happen to live in Alaska.
My one discrepancy I would like to know is if Jane and Atz lee have only been married 10 years how do they have two children that are 12 and 14 years old?
Did they have their children before they married? Just wondering.
So enjoy the show but realize this is not the wild west. It’s Alaska where people drive cars, shop, go to the movie, have cable and Internet and live pretty much like the rest of us.

  13. I watched the Atz Lee/Jane 10th wedding anniversary show last night. It, like the Thanksgiving and Christmas shows, was obviously staged. As I recall, their kids are teenagers, or close to it. Which means it would have to have been filmed before the series was on the air.

I enjoy the show, but also realize it has a very tenuous relationship to reality. It is so heavily produced that I wonder if Otto goes to the outhouse on command of the director.

  14. Lori

You really need to renew this contract .get rid of Alaskan bush people I no there was a small problem this year with Alz Lee bit that just made it more real I have watch this show sence season 1 have them all recorded rewatch them all the time one of the best shows you all have on Discovery ch don’t screw it up ! There will be a lot of disappointed fans renew for season 6 LOVE THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!

  15. This show will no more be canceled than Hoax Island. When you have an audience of that many people who actually believe what they are seeing is fact. the producers know the money will roll in. It’s what made professional wrestling such a lucrative business.

  16. I love the Kilchers, they are such a lovely family to one another, helpful and kind. Their gentleness and humour make the world seem a better placen

  17. I love this show whether it’s real living or some of it staged. I wish I could turn back time and live like they do in the show. I would try it in a heartbeat. As for Jane and Otz not having there children shown on the show I don’t blame them, people can be so mean sometimes. And I absolutely love Findley and Sparrow. I also watch repeats because I love this way of living.

  18. My family loves the show! I hope it continues to be on. It’s hard to find good family shows on TV anymore! Our 7 year old will watch reruns all day if we let him.

  19. I love the show especially Otto…he is too funny! Who cares if they have money or not? It’s really none of my business…good for them if they do!
I look forward to watching the show coming up in Oct. I like Jewel’s music so it’ll be cool too see her come back home.. God bless them!!☺💗💙

  20. New to the show and have been catching up via Amazon Prime. My question is if the boys….Atz Lee and Eivin have been exposed to this lifestyle from birth why aren’t they better at hunting? Is it because they make their own bullets? Atz Lee bought a new gun for Jane and it probably came with bullets. Her first few shots were on target…..maybe she’s a better shooter. If they need/rely on this skill for substance for their freezers you’d think they would be better. Atz Lee does seem lazier than Eivin. Do you really think/believe Atz Sr eats/uses road kill?!? Up to season 4 so hoping to be caught up by time season 6 debuts in a couple weeks.

  21. We watch the show all of the time. My family watches together and we don’t care if the homestead is only ten miles from town or if they eat at McDonalds. The show is interesting, the family is fun to watch, and they do a whole lot of things we’ll never get to do. Keep the episodes coming!!! Also, please ignore the haters.

  22. Jane this, and Jane that…..Jane,Jane,Jane…
She comes across rude at times especially when their all together at holidays…always with a sour look on her face. They showed the inside of her house in season 3, and it was a mess…she’s lazy. All those years living there, and she just now takes an interest in hunting?
Eve, on the other hand is sweet and adorable.
Plus she has so many projects going on around her homestead, and their house is awesome inside and out.
All you women who say they just love Jane and Eve needs to toughen up? It’s most likely you are a lazy, overweight fat face, just like Jane.
So jealous of the beautiful and sweet Eve?
    Aren’t ya?

  23. I don’t care what people say , I love the show. I look for it every week. If they are rich who cares I like it and Jane is my star . She can make me laugh and her husband is lazy but I enjoy him to. At least it looks like he is lazy.
As for the cabin now that upsets me. How could he put Jane through sush worry and the have her take care of him and then just take off to go make a cabin in the woods. Dosnt mak much sense to me but it is a show I won’t give up !!
    Kay

  24. DO ALL OF YOU PEOPLE LIVE UNDER A ROCK??? MY GOSH, WHO CARES IF IT’S SCRIPTED, IT’S GOOD CLEAN ENTERTAINMENT. WOULD YOU RATHER YOUR KIDS WERE WATCHING “DRUGS, INC”? I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF ALL YOU PEOPLE THINK “SOUTH PARK” ISN’T SCRIPTED. GROW UP AND GET A LIFE AND KEEP YOUR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS TO YOURSELVES!!! BY THE WAY, ARE THE BEARS JUST PEOPLE DRESSED IN BEAR COSTUMES?
    HAVE A GREAT LIFE.
    NANCY
5 STARS FOR THE KILCHER CLAN. AND JANE, SHE’S THE BEST!!!

  25. Atz Lee is selfish & lazy & depends on Jane to & the rest of the family yo provide for him. Don’t understand why why Jane puts ups with him. They are all his enablers. Eve & her family are my favorites. They work really hard.

  26. I find this show truly rewarding. I learn something new with every episode; from survival skills to making rawhide, using clam shells for organic gardening… Etc etc. with so many crappy reality shows on tv today it’s great to watch their show. Hope they continue to be safe after so many more small earthquakes in Southern Alaska. God Bless them all.

  27. I love this show and Alaskan Bush People. Please don’t cancel either show. The rest of you stop being so hateful. We are entertained. We don’t care if the Kilcher’s have another life on the side or how much money they really have. Love Jane, Eve, Bonnie and Charlotte. The guys are good men. I learn something new every time I watch the show. That in itself is worth its weight in Alaskan gold!

  28. I am a new fan to Alaskan reality TV. I enjoy seeing what life is like for a family working together willingly. I was born into a ranching/farming family. These shows remind me of the life I could have lived. Bittersweet at times, mostly enjoyable.

  29. I totally agree with you, Nancy Becker! If people don’t like or agree with things that happen on the show, don’t watch it! Sure, it is scripted but not their total life styles are scripted. Who cares if they go to a city to buy supplies or whatever they need! They do work hard as any other farmer/rancher does. AND, those farmer/rancher people go to town to buy supplies. Otto and Eiven are master minds on inventing and constructing things that they need. Like my son said, “They go out to the junk pile and before you know it, they have built something miraculous out of crap!” Eve and Charlotte are hard working women, too…gardening, canning, hunting, scooping poop out of the chicken coop, wading in manure knee deep, gathering the cattle, milking the cows, pulling calves, making candles, tending to the bees…on and on! You haters and complainers need to go away. Watch some other show that you like if that is possible! Hats off to Jane for all that she has accomplished in life: her education, performance skills, writing ability, settling in to the Alaska lifestyle and still open to learning more! You people accuse her of not knowing a lot of the skills needed to live there and criticize Jane of her gun skills, her whining and other things; I would like to see you complainers do what she has tried and accomplished. Atz doesn’t appear to be very understanding to others’ needs. To me, it is all about him, and he is going to do what he wants no matter what hardship it puts on Jane and the rest of the family. It appears to me that he is a difficult person to live with… grumpy like his dad! Both Antz and Atz Lee are condisending to their wives at times…a learned trait. They appear to take their wives for granted and have the attitude of “take it or leave it”. Leave this show alone! It is entertaining and gives viewers a glimpse of the life in the Alaska wilderness. Love this show! Keep it going!

  30. I love watching your show and hope it continues. Whether it is all true or not it is great entertainment and they are all good actors. I only wish there was someway you could buy DVD’s of previous seasons. If anyone knows how please email me.

    • Jan, they are available on dvd. Just search the show title and DVD and it will pull up multiple retail/online stores.

  31. I live in Scotland and love this show. I’ve found it impossible to buy PAL format DVD other than Series 1. Any ideas anyone? I’ve recorded the shows but if my TIVO box needs replacing I’ve lost them all.

  32. I love this show.
So what if they already have money.
I think maybe they r trying to keep the Kilcher Homestead as their Dad did.
    I’m watching that honey making,
    I grew up on ranch.
Like some have said: “if u don’t like it, don’t watch it like Drug Inc. (idiots).
Primarily stop hating on what others enjoy. HATERS WILL ALWAYS BE HATERS SO SHUT UP!

  33. No Nancy Becker we don’t live under rocks but obviously u do and u r RUDE.
All that being said, leave Jane alone. She lives her husband so far. She didn’t come from that kind of family but she’s willing to try and learn new things.
She’s a millionaire in her own right so kudos to u Jane
Charllotte and Evenjydt kill me but I think they r rudenright sling with the rest of the
The men in that family, funny, smart, (Otto) hard working while shooting the show, but wild horses couldn’t get me to marry one of them!

  34. BTW, we had a “parts” yard, cattle and horses “parts barn” we rebuild things ourselves including when our house burned, Daddy brought Grandpas house up to town and tore down another for the lumber and built another. “Waste not want not” and I still live like that.
Use your noggins for something besides video games!
BTW, I have a Masters Degree, when I need it on bad years but I much much prefer way out in the country where I was raised and proud of who I am,, and where I came from 👅

  35. Love the show and all the families. What if its script, so what the me they are a clean family show.I have watched since fisted aired. We don’t have murders on the show. All the people who are so critical, get a life & job, ( just jealous ). Descovery keep bringing us the show. The actors & actress, they soon will be replaced by computer, then what!!!

  36. Love the show and all the Kiltchers. I can’t understand why anyone would think Atz Lee Jr. Is lazy. I’ve never seen him be a loafer. Always a hard worker. Can you haters imagine what it must be like from having that horrible fall that broke his body in so many places. Look at the courage he has. How hard he pushes himself! Too much too soon. A person’s body and mind can’t heal overnight from such a serious accident. Come on clear the cobwebs from your minds!

  37. I love the show and everyone on the show. I have a suggestion to make the show Better. Please tell Charlotte to stop saying “Oh My God,” or “God”. I am sure she does not know that is using God’s name in vain and it is one of the 10 commandments. Thou Shall Not Use the Lord Gods Name in Vain. Please tell Charlotte.
Help Shane build his cabin for his wife.
    Thank you,

    • God is not a dirty word. Some people should understand that not everyone shares their opinions! Charlotte is a grown woman and if she wants to use the word “God”; don’t try to scold her as if she were your five year old!

  38. Love this show! Love the different personalities and how they work together.
Sounds like Kelly isn’t real sick yet, though it is an increasingly debilitating disease. Who knows what the family dynamic is. I’m sure we’ll find out. Shane and Kelly probably live in town until their house is built.
I agree with whoever said Atz Lee is still recovering from many broken bones, etc. He’s also dealing with PTSD which is VERY debilitating and takes time to heal. He is pretty stubborn and hard-headed, but who are we to judge his motives? He and Jane are “different” and therefore interesting. You can’t say this show is boring.
Another thing, someone was griping about unsuccessful hunts and fishing. If you hunt or fish, you know you get skunked at least as often as you bag your limit. That’s reality!
Love the family, love the show. Keep it going.

  39. I sure hope this show stays on the air, it’s my favorite. As far as Atz Lee and Jane, I think he is being very selfish, if he expects Jane to just pull up roots is ver unfare. It’s ok for him to have a getaway but not move their family to nothing but a small cabin!! Justme!

  40. I don’t understand why there are haters on here talking about how the family has lots of money, new cars, etc. The family clearly states that they “choose” to live this way. They love to live off the land. Of course, they could go to the grocery store and buy everything that they need, but they love to hunt, garden, recycle old equipment and scraps. They choose this because for Otz and Otto this is the way they grew up and they love that lifestyle. of course they are going to add modern amenities because who wouldn’t. Some things are going to be staged because this is a production. The producers probably say things like “next time you go to the outhouse Otto let us know so we can film it”. This is a TV show and such things should be expected. I love this show. This family has an amazing work ethic that you don’t see every day. They are loving to one another, and they help out their neighbors. I hope this show keeps being renewed because I’ll definitely be watching it.

  41. great show, watch it every Sunday night
I think Jane is funny and entertaining in her own way, she is not the star, but we would miss her if she left
who cares if they have money
I love that Jewel came back with her son, I have always loved her songs

  42. The show shows how a family should be working and
helping each other. and neighbors and showing the love all over. we don’t see that any more like it use to be

  43. I hope Atz Lee is not getting hooked on Pain Meds. His hole attitude seems to have changed. Ive been threw to many spine fusions from auto accidents. and work accidents,So ive been been threw this my self, And the pain meds will give you the I dont care attitude. His life will not be the same. You just have to do what you can and swallow your pride and ask for help. And use the least pain meds you can. it is to easy to take them by habit and no need.
Dont get me wrong i love the show and the whole family.
Im just a bit concerned Fan.

  44. Love the show. Everyone seems to be willing and eager to do their part to make a go of it. Except for Bitchin’ Jane. She is a downer and should have much less air time.

  45. I’m sure glad I have DVR because I record the program and fast forward through the segments with Jane in them. Love the show and all the people except Jane

  46. Love the show! Everyone of the family! Jane is a jewel! She is not frowning it is just the way she looks! wish I could catch fish as she does! that lady can fish!

  47. Been watching since the first season. Its a great show. I like the entire cast…but cant figure out why everybody is helping atz lee build his second home but nobody is helping Shane and Kelli build their first? MS is a killer…there is no cure….Kelli is dying and nobody seems to care….Shane and Kelli have said that to slow the disease down, they need to move out to the homestead and leave clean and pure life…..to slow the disease….if that is true, shouldnt the family be just a little panicked and rushing to build THAT cabin?

  48. Australia Here

Everyone to their own opinion is fair but being spiteful on a public forum is disgraceful to say the least. And for sure this is very hurtful and stressful to this kilchner family reading these posts and not to mention how upsetting it is for the viewers who read these posts as well.

I find this family show a display of endearment, respect for each other and the land and a very insightful look into a different way of living life that many people all over the world were subjected too one way or another.

It maybe somewhat fictionalised to others, but there is a reason that has come from their family roots that once was.

Doing this show brings back for this family memories of what was once their lifestyle growing up. They have this opportunity to recall those days and this enables us as viewers to visually see a different lifestyle they endured once upon a time in their lives growing up on a harsh land.

Ridiculing people is not acceptable. It might be TV, but it’s light hearted, it’s once upon time real, it’s educational, it’s people’s lives today, it’s another way of life. Their not movie characters their real people predicting how their family/ancestors lived.

I’d love to be given an opportunity to go meet or visit with this family, just to breathe in something so different and tantalising.

Be kind with your words and don’t say what you wouldn’t want others to say to you.

  49. Australia here also – Queensland, so hot weather

I also love this show and as I live in very hot weather, I love to see how the Kiltchers survive in the cold.

I was raised in the country on a dairy farm so I understand a lot of their way of life but not the freezing temperatures.

To the people who critise the show I would suggest you “stop watching” and let the people who enjoy watching the Kiltchers life unfold enjoy the show.

I enjoy all the characters and I dont have a favourite. Good luck to the Kiltchers and I will keep watching as it is one of my favourite shows on the Discovery Channel.

  50. I have watched almost every episode.

I think this is a great show for people to learn how to reuse, repurpose, fabricate, grow, hunt, fish etc.
Granted – they live 10 miles from town. Yes, they have businesses. Yes, they “Choose” to live this lifestyle.

The lower 48 and the rest of the world needs to watch with an open mind. The Kilchers are very resourceful with their tangibles… They don’t waste.
Look at your garbage cans and dumpsters every week. How many people waste? They, on the other hand do not.
They don’t spend countless hours online, or in front of a TV or playing video games for weeks at a time.

They are outside LIVING – Playing, working, thinking, doing, and risking their lives.

How many of you nay-sayer haters on this site have done one TENTH of the stuff that these people have done?

Sometimes I just want to drive up there and help out! 🙂 haha

I understand that the show needs scripted. They also have to explain EVERYTHING because the majority of the masses has been so dumbed down over the years.
Who here has ever shot a 200-300 pound bear??
Who here has ever caught a 200 POUND FISH???
OMG!!! JANE You ROCK AT THAT!! Kudos Woman! haha!!!
Who here can raise chickens and then process them for your dinner table???
Who here can grow a garden to feed your family(s) for 8 months???
Who here will climb treacherous mountains to attempt to hunt down billy goats???
Who here would know what to do if a bear came up on them???
Who here would stand in a rushing river and fish for salmon?
Who here would attempt to put in a pair of steps in their home, or install a wood stove and pipe it through their roof?
Who here would make something from their heart for another family member for Christmas?
Who here would lend a helping hand for their neighbors and ask for zero cash??????
Who here would use an outhouse????

Ok… So, for all the negative people out here….
You, are NOT able to do HARDLY any of this.
    pfffffft… go away.
I look forward to these episodes… I refer back to them sometimes for reference.

I’m glad Discovery has decided to air a homesteading survival show.

You never know, you might have to live like this someday… haha… good luck on that.

  51. after reading all these comments, I`d have too say Chris is jealous of the attention this show gets. I love this show and no I am not dense, I see all the store bought stuff they have but Chris I think these people would work circles around you. As long as this show is on, me and many others will continue to watch.

  52. I can’t understand why anyone would not like Jane. I love Jane. She is one gutsy gal. Love her honesty. Who goes from a 6 bathroom house to an outhouse…..a gutsy girl for sure. You rock Jane.

  53. Real, reality or fake – – – The Last Alaskans is still the absolute best thing on TV! Especially Bob Harte.

  54. I have read all the comments people have said. I disagree with all the negative comments about Jane. I have to admire her for giving up so much of her life to move to Alaska with Atz Lee. Yes,she is different than Eve, but if they were all alike, what a boring show it would be. Everyone there has a different personality which makes the show what it is. The only thing I wish would happen, is, everyone needs to help Shane build his house. they need to get in it as soon as they can, so that Kelly can have some fun and enjoyable time. I love this show and I hope it continues.

    • I can’t say I understand why the producers even introduced the Shane thread to the story line. They have paid little attention to him, preferring to emphasize Atz Lee’s hole in the wall cabin. My bet is they will drop him next season.
