Watching this season of Discovery Channel mega-hit series “Deadliest Catch” has been bittersweet. It was up, with Josh Harris finally seeming to get his sea legs as a captain, and new crabbing captain Sean Dwyer bursting onto the crab fishing scene with a bang. But, it was also down, with Jake Anderson continuing to exhibit every negative trait we had hoped not to see in him when he took the helm of the Saga–indeed, exhibiting them 10-fold at this point–and, of course, the massive heart attack suffered by long-time captain and fan-favorite Sig Hansen.
It certainly has been a season of “Deadliest Catch” not to miss.
Fans, of course, always have questions about what will happen in the next season, even when the season has just ended! But, this season, the question of Sig’s future was a big one, overriding everything else: Could “Deadliest Catch” even go on without Sig Hansen and the Northwestern? We think, yes, it could–we think Edgar would step up and keep the Northwestern going just fine–but there would certainly be a hole each week without Captain Sig.
Is that the scenario Sig–and fans–must face next season?
Tonight, “Deadliest Catch” fans will have at least some of their questions answered, with an all-new special, “Sig Hansen Legacy.” The title sounds ominous, but is it actually predicting anything for next season? According to Discovery Channel:
Sig Hansen Legacy: A massive heart attack forces Sig Hansen to face serious decisions about his future. Sig works to repair his body and his boat while a stress-packed career and lifestyle in the early days of Alaskan crab fishing is examined.
We know Sig won’t quit unless he has to; what we don’t know–and what we hope to find out tonight–is, well, will he have to? Relive Sig and his family’s reaction to his doctor’s discussion of his potential “widowmaker” heart attack:
Tonight, Tuesday, August 23, “Deadliest Catch” features “Sig Hansen Legacy” on Discovery Channel, beginning at 9/8c. Fans can also stick around for the story of the Hansen family business and legacy, the Northwestern, at 10/9c, and get ready for the evening with a day-long “Deadliest Catch” marathon on Discovery Channel.
