UPDATED: What did readers think about Discovery’s sneak peek of “Dungeon Cove?” Read our recap and tell us!
Tonight on Discovery Channel, the Bering Sea captains gather for a new episode of “The Bait.” The “Deadliest Catch” season may have been put to bed, but there are still deadly things to talk about, in particular the the upcoming series spin-off, “Dungeon Cove.”
Fans are no doubt wondering about Captain Sig this week; we are, as well. Last week, fans watched as Sig discussed his future, and, really, gave no clear indication on what his decision may be. We–and no doubt other viewers, as well–are hoping he will just do what he needs to do to live happy and healthy. We would miss him on a new season of “Deadliest Catch,” but we want him to hang around in general, more than be on a TV show!
And, as we mentioned previously, we don’t see any reason why he would have to go away from “Deadliest Catch” completely, even if he decides crab fishing may just be more than his health can take at this point. Edgar would finally have the opportunity to captain the Northwestern, and Sig would still be around to advise him, as need be. Now, of course, Sig would need to cut off any of this sneaking around and calling him behind Edgar’s back right from the beginning–that was just a bad, bad move on Nick’s part, we still think–but there is no reason why he could not–and would not–be there for Edgar as he needed him. And, there is no reason Discovery Channel could not cover that phase of the Northwestern’s history on-camera.
And, besides: From what we saw last week, Sig has a pretty good life back home; sitting it out at least one crab season, maybe retiring from it altogether, well, he might enjoy it more than he realizes.
We don’t know if Sig will broach anything about his own career future tonight on “The Bait.” Tonight’s sit down with the captains is all about the upcoming “Deadliest Catch” spin-off, “Dungeon Cove.” According to Discovery Channel, tonight on “Welcome to the Dungeon”:
Sig and the captains introduce the frightening new world of Dungeness crab fishing off the Oregon Coast. While fishermen brave the treacherous waters and deadly bar crossing, their families wait onshore, praying for a safe return.
Every year, the boats line up and take off, signaling the start of Dungeness crab season. Millions of dollars are up for grabs in one of the last derby-style fisheries in the world, where it pays to be the fastest boat on the crab and the first boat back to the dock to sell. But, this Wild West fishing style comes at a steep price. The sea here gives life, and takes it, in equal measure.
“Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove” is scheduled to premiere on Discovery Channel on Tuesday, September 13, at 9/8c.
