Tonight on Discovery Channel, the new season of “Dual Survival” continues with new hosts EJ Snyder and Jeff Zausch. Reactions to their debut last week were mixed but, love ‘em or hate ‘em, they are back tonight!
We have to admit: We were not really looking forward to watching EJ and Jeff. We, like so many other fans of the show, have been through the ups and downs of the host swapping that has been the calling card of “Dual Survival” since original hosts (and our favorite pairing, still) Cody Lundin and Dave Canterbury were broken up, and the search for a new and equally entertaining duo began.
Discovery has yet to equal, much less surpass, Cody and Dave with any of their successive choices since then–we still cannot fathom what they they were thinking with Bill–but they came close with former U.S. Army Green Beret Weapons Sergeant Grady Powell and Josh “The Kiwi Bushman” James, an experienced outdoorsman from New Zealand’s South Island. Viewers were loving them. Then, next thing we all knew, they were gone, replaced by EJ and Jeff from the network’s “Naked and Afraid” franchise.
So, we were not happy to check them out but, we will admit: We liked them. They were interesting to watch. They have potential. But, honestly, we, like others, no doubt, are tired of investing our TV trust in this show, just to have it shattered when Discovery pulls the plug and moves on to another team-of-the-moment. So, they–and Discovery Channel–have a lot to prove to us before we are really just loving EJ and Jeff and looking forward to tuning in for “Dual Survival” again.
But, we’ll be tuning in tonight, because we think EJ and Jeff proved last week that they deserve a chance. And, according to Discovery Channel, the new duo is pulling survival duty in South America tonight:
Lost in a mile-high Araucaria forest of South America, Army Combat Veteran EJ Snyder and Wilderness Survivalist Jeff Zausch must brave venomous pit vipers, fight a wild boar and survive the treacherous terrain in their search for rescue.
“Dual Survival” is produced for Discovery Channel by Original Media, where Glenda Hersh and Steven Weinstock are executive producers, and Brian Nashel is executive producer and showrunner. For Discovery Channel, Mitchell Rosenbaum and John Slaughter are executive producers with Meagan Davies as producer.
“Dual Survival” airs on Discovery Channel on Wednesday nights at 9/8c.
