“Dual Survival” is making its run for the season, and fans have been quite vocal in their opinions on yea/nay for the new team of Army combat veteran, EJ Snyder, and wilderness survivalist Jeff Zausch, former contestants on the network’s “Naked and Afraid” series.
According to Discovery Channel, Jeff and EJ have proven their expertise when it comes to outlasting tough, rugged scenarios, from fending off packs of hungry hyenas to building extreme rafts to battling serious infections, on “Naked and Afraid” and “Naked and Afraid XL.” But, they are having difficulty proving to “Dual Survival” fans that they are the right hosts for this show; what is it going to take?
We mentioned at the beginning of EJ and Jeff’s “Dual Survival” run that we thought their biggest challenge was going to be fan trust, and we still believe that. When it comes to “Dual Survival” hosts, the fans of this show have been put through the wringer by Discovery Channel, and the sudden departure of Grady and Josh “The Kiwi Bushman” James may have been the last straw. EJ and Jeff are likeable and, technically, should be an easy fit for this show, but it’s just not clicking. For whatever reason, things seem staged and almost unnatural at times; EJ and Jeff appear to be acting more than truly surviving. But, perhaps that is just because we, as viewers, have just lost our willingness to suspend our disbelief and enjoy these new hosts–because we flat-out do not trust Discovery Channel to not yank them away, pulling the rug out from under us again, just as we were looking forward to seeing them each week.
It’s an unfortunate predicament, for both fans of “Dual Survival” and these new hosts, but not one that appears to be going away quickly. For our part, we will keep watching and trying, because we want to love “Dual Survival” again. But, what about other viewers? Given up? Still trying? We’d love to know what readers think–leave your ideas and opinions in the comment section below.
