Comedian Tony Rock hosts a new concept for combining the art of dating with game show antics, and it debuts on TV One, Tuesday January 31. “The Game of Dating” involves teams of real friends or family for a genre-bending effort that is good for laughs.
The network describes it as a “…provocative, sexy and hysterical new take on classic dating show scenarios”. Check out the preview video clip posted below for a sneak peek of what’s in store for one hour at 8 p.m. ET/PT tonight. There’s a hint of “The People’s Couch” in there somewhere, don’t you think?
“The Game of Dating is a hilarious, jam-packed series filled with comedy, huge reveals and excellent play along,” said Brad Siegel, President of TV One. “With expert comic timing, Tony Rock entertainingly navigates the audience and our contestants through two dates – each one as unpredictable and funny as the last. It’s the only game show where dating pays off!”
“The Game of Dating” uses a hidden camera technique for the benefit of three teams of family/friends who watch a couple on a date. The members of the teams use their dating experiences as background to guess what comes next. It’s not an essay test, thank goodness. There are multiple choices for the outcome or the next move and there’s cash as the ultimate prize for the winning team.
To do a good job, the teams have to get inside the personalities of the daters, and without much background that’s not easy. They could be watching a couple who has been together for a while, or on a blind date. No matter the situation, some things are common to all dates, right?
