“My Big Fat Fabulous Life” introduced one of the biggest personalities we’ve seen on the show, and that’s saying a lot considering Whitney Way Thore is the center of the series. In “Whitney Calls For Backup” we met Jenzi, a dance instructor and trainer who came to Greensboro and left with the same amount of noise and flare.
Her impact on the Big Girl Dance class members was significant, but not necessarily in the choreography department. She called out the class for not learning the choreography soon enough for Jenzi’s taste, using profanity and name calling. Oh yeah, and she didn’t use music to teach the moves. Instead, she used monosyllable sounds without meaning to help emphasize the energy she expected and the beat for timing of those moves. “Koo, Koo BAH! Kah, Kah BAH!” Can you still hear it? We sure can.
Jenzi had two days to whip the class into shape, including Whitney and Todd, and acted out in a manner that didn’t sit well with anyone. That’s on Whitney, who admitted she didn’t do much due diligence before she sent for Jenzi, who landed in Greensboro and insulted their southern barbecue food.
It should have been a sign to Whitney, but instead, she was so desperate for help that she ignored it. She was still whining a bit at the radio station about it being a lot of pressure, but Maney and Roy won’t give her a break. Why should they? She could have nipped this in the bud by stressing the purpose of the Big Girls Dance class, but was either too embarrassed or didn’t have the backbone to call the whole thing off.
We got a bit of a reprieve from the Jenzi class scenes during last night’s “My Big Fat Fabulous Life’ as we returned to the gym and Thore’s trainer Will. A big success on the scale again for Whitney, who has lost a bit over 25 lbs. since getting back to regular workouts. She says she’s being more mindful of her food intake, and although we get no camera time about it, she must be doing something, right?
Wish we could say the same for Buddy who was gloomy when the scale showed he made no progress. Even he said that he feared he’d be at 350 lbs. the next time he looked. The guy works crazy hours, and doesn’t get enough sleep. It’s clear he doesn’t know what a healthy meal is, and if Will really cares, he could hand Buddy a sample low-fat, high protein diet. If he doesn’t follow it, that’s on him.
The dance battle is on, and in scenes from next week’s show, we saw them in their red outfits and rhythm sticks in hand. Obviously there’s a lot riding on this for Whitney’s pride. Will she be able to learn the “Koo Kooh, BAH” moves to be the leader her class needs? Stay tuned…
