It’s the stuff that fans of “My 600 Lb. Life” wait for. It’s time for updates on the patients from last season and “Where Are They Now?” episodes. It gets kicked off with a doozy of a story about Lupe and her husband Gilbert. Also covered in the two-hour show is a follow-up with Ashley D, whose quest to free her little son Patrick from being her companion has taken a detour.
Lupe and Gilbert’s story got viewers riled up and at odds with each other about who was the more selfish of the two. Gilbert’s passive-aggressiveness and his cheating vs. Lupe, who was bedridden, had a deathly fear of falling and thus, stayed in bed. The story split audiences down the middle. Original story and video clip, here!
If you recall, Lupe had to have Gilbert by her side all the time or she couldn’t function. Unfortunately that meant that she couldn’t keep to the Dr. Now eating program if Gilbert was unreachable and Lupe feared the worst. Eventually, the two had to accept that she would die without his help, and her adherence to the diet. Now, a year later, Lupe has lost half her body weight, yet is still in bed. She claims to have gotten so weak that moving is impossible. Gilbert can’t be liking that, right?
Ashley D, her husband and son Patrick present another story of patients on “My 600 Lb. Life” who relapse, but not by overeating again. After topping out at 725 lbs. when she first saw Dr. Nowzaradan, Ashley weighed in at a bit over 500 lbs. by the time twelve months passed. Ashley had two enablers, her husband and mother-in-law, both of whom were obese in their own right. They had to agree to help Ashley before she could succeed and they did. Original story with video, here!
Yet, one year later, Ashley, who has lost half her previous body weight claims that she’s unable to walk. That had been her main goal, so that she could be part of son Patrick’s life and give him a childhood in which he didn’t have to worry about his mom. One of the main physical barriers to Ashley making a full recovery is the stomach skin that stretched to the floor. She wants skin surgery, but without her overcoming what Dr. Now believes is fear and a mental block, that isn’t going to happen.
