“My Big Fat Fabulous Life”will air its season four finale next week, and it looks like the Todd-Whitney friendship is at risk again. During last night’s show, “Whitney Steps Up”, Todd acted out in the Big Girl Dance class and in one-on-one camera time expressed his anguish about being abandoned by Whitney.
What is the reason Todd thinks Whitney has some obligation to him that would keep her from a career choice that takes her away from Greensboro? The BGD class members have just as much reason to be hurt or disappointed. Then there’s Babs, Whitney’s mom who just had a small stroke and is in recovery. If she and hubby Glenn wanted to pull a guilt trip on their daughter, they clearly have priority over any feelings Todd may have.
Whitney’s opportunity to change her life and travel with The Fitness Marshall comes at a time in “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” when she has no clear path to anything in particular. Whitney’s radio career is iffy at best and her love life is non-existent, as she said. Caring for Babs was taken off the table by Daddy Glenn, who paved the way for his daughter to go on tour if that is her choice.
Todd would be put in charge of the dance class, if he wants to take that role. If not, Whitney will press the pause button on BGD. Can Todd’s anger be about his bestie leaving for a while or is there something else at play here?
Whitney’s attention was focused on Babs for most of the episode and she became the adult in the room by taking her mom into the home she shares with Buddy. Instead of a bell to ring when she needed help, Babs got a bike horn, which was pretty funny. She was fussed over by Whitney who thought of everything, but after a few days, Babs got homesick. Glenn missed her she made enough progress for everyone to feel she could manage without someone with her 24/7.
The radio show situation was a bit odd. Maney, Roy and LauRen’s show was in limbo, according to what we saw on-camera. Their contract was up and there was uncertainty about whether or not the station would renew it. While they loved Whitney’s work and were ready to make her a steady fill-in or part-time member of their team on the air, they couldn’t promise anything until they learned about their own fate.
So, why wasn’t that left open in a more clear way? Why didn’t Roy tell Whitney that they’d be in touch as soon as they knew if the show was renewed? It left Whitney feeling like she had to move on. Meanwhile, the show is still going strong on KISS 95.1. What really happened?
What do you think is the reason Todd is so angry at Whitney?
