Daniel Lissing and Lori Laughlin in ep. 2 of "When Calls the Heart" season 4

‘When Calls the Heart’: Is Jack’s Fate Hinted At in Hallmark Press Release About Renewal?

Hallmark Channel announced via a press release, that it had renewed its hit drama series “When Calls the Heart”, for a fifth season. The full text of the press release is posted below. The season finale was beautifully done and gave us strong moments of joy and redemption, just without any sighting of the character of Jack Thornton played by actor Daniel Lissing. A recap was posted.

When we reached out to the network’s representative about whether or not Lissing would return in his role as Mountie Jack Thornton, we got a cryptic reply. According to the media relations person, the press release should give us a clue about that. We consider ourselves well read and bright people, so maybe we’re missing something.

The only tidbit that might be good news for #Hearties everywhere is the inclusion of Lissing’s name among those that star in the show. Some fans claimed that Daniel Lissing was not listed on the credits of the last few shows after his character left to fight in the Northern Territories. Make of this what you wish, or hope, but we choose to see this as a good sign!

Here’s the press release for you to decipher.

  1. I think that it stinks that we waited all series for to see if Jack was returning only to find out at the end you left us all hanging. If he doesn’t return I’m done watching

  2. Keep the same characters, we love them and we love a clean Christian show. But you should have a longer season , instead of making random shows with the same characters , start making longer seasons and see your ratings go out the roof.

  3. WCTH is my favorite TV series in a long time. I love the chemistry between Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Jack (Daniel Lissing). I was so disappointed that Jack seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth at the end of season 4. His role in the series is so vital! I am looking forward to season 5 and hopeful that Daniel Lissing will return as Jack.

This is a wonderful show. I have watched it from the beginning with the pilot show and season 1 through the end of season 4. WCTH is such a wholesome TV series. It is so refreshing!

  4. I love this show..I have all 4 season and I watch them over and over. This show brings back good Family TV programming something that has been missing for a while..

    Thank you!

  5. Thank you hallmark for season 5 of WCTH. Without jack this does not work. We love these two together. We want happy ends. Stop with the teasing, I hope we have a christmas special with a wedding not jyst any wedding. Jack and elizbeth.

  6. I LOVE the show. I love you for bringing the show to us. YOU can not kill JACK off the SHOW. Daniel and all the rest of the stars. YOU NEED TO extend the season. Please.

  7. If Jack doesnt come back i am done watching. I did the same with grays anatomy when they had that plane crash and killed off main characters. Havent watched it since. Been watching all this time for Elizabeth and Jack to get together, dont kill him off now. We see too much fighting and killing in this day and time. Lets have some strong Christian family and love!!

  8. The show doesnt work without Jack. i feel like we are been gamed at this point. they arent being honest with us about Jack. Hope Valley seems to tell is to hope in vain.

  9. I absolutely LOVE When Calls The Heart..I plan my Sunday’s around the show. I’m thrilled that there will be another season BUT PLEASE, bring Jack back for the next season. The show just wouldn’t be the same without his character and there are too many unresolved story lines that involve his character. If Jack doesn’t come back, I don’t know if I can continue to watch.

  10. I hope they are not making s mistake, by secretly keeping him away. Examples of mistakes, like Elena Gilbert (Vampire Diaries), Derek on Greys anatomy. Just a few who made the mistake of testing fans loyalty. Heartiest love the show, I hope Jack returns for everyone’s sake. Just feel like to be a fate based show, should have not been so easy to tease the fans with no remorse. I’m all about playing to the audience, but st least give them hope. They could be at least showed him fight up north, instead of completely erasing him from the show. I think it’s just sad the way it was handled. The first time since our chenotherapy group meet and we’re all disappointed in the ending. In a world we’re we look for any hope. We though the writers would be s little more compassionate to their fans. Just to say we are not hearties that are mad, just disappointed. But we still love the show and all the actors and crew including Bryan Byrd.

  11. I don’t like how Rude some of you are being to Brian and to the other Hearties and even the cast! You guys just make your own assumptions and assume something bad! And you are pretty mean in the way you are expressing yourselves! I for one will never be “Done watching” this show! I miss Jack too but I can be patient! I can’t be patient with people lashing out all the time till next season! Please tell me this whining isn’t gonna continue till february! To Brian Bird and all the other producers and cast who make this show possible, Thanks so much for making a wonderful show that’s great for the entire family and has Christian values!

    • I’m not sure people are “whining” Beth. I am late to the party as they say as I just discovered WCTH and binged watched all four seasons in one weekend. But I have to agree with many disgruntled posters. The show spends 3 1/2 seasons teasing and taunting the audience with a will they or won’t they dance only to have a rushed proposal and rapid sendoff in 15 minutes ofscreen time. Then to not even offer an explanation to loyal fans that have built the popularity of the show to the level it is that would warrant a season five is inexcusable. Like I said, I am late to the party, but I grew to love the Jack and Elizabeth storyline and it was the only reason I was kept enthralled and captivated for an entire weekend. Imagine my disappointment as I sat there thru the last four episodes waiting for a glimpse of red. I echo the sentiments of so many others – if they don’t bring Jack back – and Daniel Lissing to play him – I too will not be watching. I am not sure what happened in the last half of that season, maybe it was the writers or producers or something, but it paled in comparison to the 3 1/3 season build up.

  12. I’m a “late comer” too. I binge watched the first three seasons after watching the Christmas special. I have watched the early episodes so many times and I find myself fast forwarding to see Jack and Elizabeth. If Jack (played by Daniel) doesn’t return early in season 5, I’m done.

  13. I agree with many of you who are truly disappointed with Jack’s absence. I can only see it as a cruel joke… testing loyal viewers. I have been a loyal viewer since this show began, and it has been built on Jack and Elizabeth’s relationship for the most part. I was saddened at the last episode of season 4 that there wasn’t even so much as another letter from Jack, telling Elizabeth he was doing fine. Or something!!! This is hurtful to the faithful fans, and as you can see by many comments, some will be leaving if Jack does not return. I may be one of those. It completely destroys an otherwise wonderful show for me. I also am a little frustrated there is only one season the whole year. I also watch Heartland, but they have more than one season throughout the year. Faithful fans are hard to come by… please writers, don’t destroy a very good thing by not bringing Jack (Daniel Lissing) back. WE NEED THAT WEDDING TO HAPPEN!!!
