Season 4 of “Return to Amish” is airing on Sunday nights, and yet, the action has been eclipsed by current events. It’s one of the risks of taping episodes months in advance. The question is whether or not it spoils or enhances your viewing experience. UPDATE posted below!
In recent weeks, two people on the show were in the news and not in a good way. Jeremiah Raber was arrested in Florida and charged with domestic violence. As reported in Starcasm (link posted below) Jeremiah was taken into custody on Saturday April 22 after assaulting wife Carmela.
The good news, if you can call it that, is that Jeremiah took responsibility after his release. He went to social media to explain and admit to falling prey to his demons. As if he had spent time with a therapist, Jeremiah was able to admit he is a product of his upbringing in a home where he was told he would never amount to anything. He sought approval everywhere and didn’t recognize love when he received it.
On this season of “Return to Amish” we have followed Jeremiah and wife Carmela to Florida where he has been combative with strangers as well as Carmela. The couple needed a break in Sarasota to get relief from the bickering and hard feelings. It helped, according to Jeremiah, but mere months later he landed in a cell for domestic violence. This Sunday when you watch the show, will his violent episode make a difference?
On May 11 in Pennsylvania, Sabrina was booked on charges of drug and drug paraphernalia possession, use of the paraphernalia and driving an unregistered vehicle, according to the police report (link posted below). It arose from an incident in April, which is unfortunate for Sabrina. She was still on probation from charges filed in 2016, which led to her losing custody of daughter Oakley.
Currently on the show, we are watching Sabrina fight to regain custody, while she endures the final weeks of her pregnancy. She has been depressed about the prospect of giving birth to her second child who may be taken from her. While we have yet to see the birth, Sabrina announced on social media that she had another daughter she named Arianna.
It’s difficult and sad to see Sabrina struggling again with staying on the right side of the law. Despite her focus on “Return to Amish” and her pledges to remain out of trouble, it’s obvious she isn’t able to do so. This Sunday on the show, we’ll watch Sabrina go into labor a month early, and attend a baby shower hosted by Mary. Knowing the latest news about her, will it be difficult to watch without judging her?
Here’s the latest episode recap with more bad news about Sabrina, but there’s something even more important! Two days ago, Sabrina took a guilty plea on the pending charges and was still in custody as of the time of this posting. Community service and fines are the punishment given. There were no felony charges among them, but it remains to be seen how it will affect her current probation status and custody issues for her two children.
