‘The Voice” will crown its season 12 winner tonight, May 23 on NBC. The performance show was a two-hour song-filled show showing off the finalists in duet as well as solo song mode. There were original tunes for each, a cover song and a duet with their coach.
Thanks to sponsor Toyota, the finalists recorded their original single for sale as well as a video. The show has yet to produce a breakout single artist, and everyone associated with the program is anxious for that to happen. We think that will change this season if either Lauren Duski or Chris Blue are voted by fans as the winner.
Blake Shelton is looking for his sixth champion singer with Duski. She has all the tools to follow in the footsteps of someone like Carrie Underwood as a country music and crossover star. Her voice is mature and she can rip through an uptempo tune as well as a ballad. It helps that her coach calls her the next big thing for country music, which means he’ll help her take that leap. Shelton has done as much for lesser stars, who have charted hits and been on tour, either with Blake or as a solo act. The best of her two solo performances was her original song, “Deja Vu”.
“The Voice” will say goodbye to Alicia Keys after tonight’s finale. She’s getting out of the big red chair to make room for Jennifer Hudson or Kelly Clarkson. Also out after tonight, for an unspecified amount of time is Gwen Stefani. Alicia has the strongest candidate for a win besides Duski. That would be Chris Blue, the singer, performer who has electrified the audiences in the studio as well as driven Keys to declare him ready to take the world by storm.
His cover song closed the show and it was a standout performance, taking on the iconic Janet Jackson song “Rhythm Nation”. Blue loses himself on stage when he’s in the groove and Alicia correctly pointed out his influences as Usher, Chris Brown and Bruno Mars. You could hear that most particularly in the singer’s original tune, “Money On You”. His stage presence is unlike anyone this season and on the strength of his voice and performance skills, he’s ready to launch into the music business, if the right management and record label could make that happen. Check out his original single and why it’s ready to be a big summer hit.
