“Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks” wraps up its fourth season, Sunday night September 17 at 10 p.m. on National Geographic. What’s in store for the captains and their vessels? Will someone take the crown from Greg Mayer? Watch him battle to keep it in the sneak peek video posted below.
After weeks of dangerous seas, mechanical breakdowns, unbelievable catches and crushing losses, the North Atlantic bluefin season comes to a close in North Carolina and the captains of National Geographic’s hit series “Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks” must battle it out to the end. It’s the closest competition in series history, and the leaderboard standings shift dramatically with every weigh-in, presenting a make-or- break moment when one fish can make all the difference and any captain can go home a champion.
Captain Greg Mayer of the Fishin’ Frenzy has claimed the top spot on the Outer Banks leaderboard for the past three seasons. Mayer began the season confident he could lead the fleet again, but the other captains have made that goal difficult, and now Mayer finds himself in the middle of the pack.
Captain Britton Shackelford of the Doghouse recently brought in a triple catch to lead the fleet, but his hold on the top spot is tenuous. Captain Tyler McLaughlin of the Pinwheel has had one of his best seasons ever, bolstered by his investment in a new, bigger boat. And the fleet can’t count out Captain Charlie Griffin of the Reels of Fortune — the smallest boat in the fleet has managed to bring in some of the biggest catches this season.
