TNT dropped a season 4 trailer for “The Last Ship” and Eric Dane as Tom Chandler has a brand new look. The photo posted above says it all. No longer clean-shaven and buttoned up as a Commander in the United States Navy, Chandler’s trying to lay low.
He and his family moved out of the country. When the season opens we’ll find Chandler in a small fishing village in Greece, of all places. He left heroics, titles and responsibilities behind; he did more than his part and suffered grave losses to save the world from a deadly virus as well as the despotic rulers that tried to withhold the cure for their own purposes.
The trailer immediately gets to the heart of the season’s action. Captain Slattery ( Adam Baldwin) and the crew of Nathan James have discovered that the virus has “jumped kingdoms” and now infects the world’s food crops, bringing humanity to the brink of global famine.
How do the paths of the Nathan James and Tom Chandler cross? As the ship traverses the Mediterranean in search of a solution that can save the world’s food supply, Chandler encounters his own enemies in Greece. His “hero’s journey” becomes a modern-day retelling of Homer’s Odyssey.
The series is produced by Turner’s Studio T in association with Platinum Dunes, whose partners – blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form – serve as executive producers. Co-creators Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane also serve as executive producers, along with director Paul Holahan. Kane serves as showrunner for seasons four and five, having previously served alongside Steinberg for the first three season.
“The Last Ship” two-hour season premiere will air on Sunday, Aug. 20, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), across TNT platforms.
