Vanessa Nelson made it official with a tweet dated August 7. “It is with a heavy heart and deep consideration, that I have to share that I have decided to end my relationship with Andre.”
Weeks after the season ended and the reunion show aired, “Married At First Sight: Second Chances” has come up 0 for 2 in its first season. Both David Norton and Vanessa Nelson were unable to make their second chances work for them. Unfortunately, stories like this aren’t about only lost love and heartbreak, because the chatter surrounding the breakups is filled with Schadenfreude.
Vanessa chose Andre over every man she met and dated, leaving a devastated Myles and a sad/angry Shannon by the wayside. Let’s not, we repeat, let’s not claim we knew better or that Vanessa deserves to be criticized for her choice. TVRuckus, like many sites that covered the show had an opinion about the best choice for her. The Myles breakup was shocking to us, mostly because we hadn’t heard her discuss lifestyle differences until the breakup talk.
We weren’t with her for the entire journey. We all got mere snippets of film edited down to fit one hour-two hour episodes. We couldn’t feel what she felt, despite thinking we did.
Vanessa may have chosen Andre over Myles and Shannon, but she never lied to the men like her show companion David Norton did to the women he dated. We all know David’s story, his defense for the lies and how he fooled Dr. Pepper Schwarz, Rachel DeAlto and Pastor Colberson. Vanessa ran a clean program, as they say in college football.
Yes, there’s chatter all over social media sites and there has been since the women on “Married At First Sight: Second Chances” alleged that Andre was contacting at least one of David Norton’s hopefuls, without the knowledge of Vanessa. That woman got her fifteen minutes of fame, even hosting a badly executed Twitter Live event in which she kept looking at something on a screen near her, and showed off her new haircut.
Perhaps she, who will remain nameless here, can gloat about what she knew and when she knew it, but we won’t join her now or ever. Vanessa Nelson deserves to live her life as she sees fit and experience the terrible heartbreak that comes with any relationship that ends. Here’s hoping there are no televised third chances, and she gets lucky in love very soon.
